The Process:
1. Middle school students learned how to draw a realistic portrait. They picked a picture of a person out of a magazine and tried to draw it as realistically as they were able to.
2. The portraits were passed off to the 1st and 2nd graders. They were asked to create a body and a background for the drawing. They were told that it could be any kind of body and that it did not have to be a human. They were asked to draw lots of detail, the only requirement is that they could not draw on the face of the portrait.
3. The 1st and 2nd grade students were asked to write a story about the character they created.
(This is where we are currently are in the process of the collaboration. )
4. The secondary students will be finishing the drawings by coloring them in with colored pencil.
5. We will display the finished products in each building and every student that participated will receive a colored copy of the collaborative drawing.
