Concept studio is a class offered for middle school students that is based on the theories and practices of conceptual art. In this class, students are taught to think using big ideas and concepts as inspiration for their artwork. For example, our first project's big idea is time. We talked about time, our relationships with it, how we view it, is it real etc. I showed them the work of various artists through-out history that have created work using "time" as inspiration. After spending time reflecting and viewing artwork, the students are challenged to come up with their own idea related to time and create artwork based off of this idea. Below are some pictures of the students in process with their projects. In this class, the students get to choose whatever medium they want to work with, so I have students drawing, painting, sculpting etc.
