The theme for this project was "sugar". The students learned about the history of sugar as well as interesting facts about sugar to use for inspiration to create a painting of a sugary treat. They viewed and analyzed the artwork of Wayne Thiebaud, who is famous for painting desserts. They then sketched a design of a dessert of their choosing. They created a final piece using celluclay, tempera paint, and sharpie. Celluclay is paper pulp clay. It was used to add texture and a 3-dimensional element to their paintings.
