A few weeks ago the kindergarten students learned about paper collage. We read a book by Eric Carle called Mister Seahorse and we talked about how he creates the illustrations. The students then used the same process to create their own collages. They started out by creating visual texture on paper with paint and various tools. After they were dry, the students used the paper to create cut-outs for a collage. The theme was ocean creatures, so we studied ocean creatures in books and practiced drawing them. The students then used what they learned to create an ocean scene out of paper. They drew the outline of their creatures and then worked on cutting them out. This lesson was great for developing their fine motor skills.
