5th grade completed their very first tempera resist painting. Tempera resist is a process that is experimental and it can be a little scary because you have to cover your entire painting with black India ink before completing your final step. The following are the steps to tempera resist:
1.Draw your design in pencil on heavy weight watercolor paper.
2.Go over your pencil lines with sharpie marker
3.Paint a very heavy coat of tempera paint onto your paper, the colors must be light or bright to stand out against the black India ink.
4.After it dries completely, you will put a layer of India ink over the entire painting. It is scary to do this because it will be completely black when you are done with this step.
5.After the India ink dries completely, you run the painting under cold water and wherever there was paint the black ink will almost completely wash off. Everywhere there was not paint will be black from the India ink.
